Professor Planera is an Adjunct Faculty member of the Art & Digital Media Department at Olivet Nazarene University. She is also the graphic design faculty advisor; she is responsible for student recruitment and managing the graphic design team of Inspired Strategies Agency.
As an adjunct faculty member she specializes in graphic advertising, graphic design, packaging design, photography, typography and web design.
From 2010 to 2017, she served as a professor for the graphic communications department and for the visual communications and multimedia arts department in photography of Prairie State College. During that time, she was the only graphic communications tutor, internship specialist, and a juror for the Photographer of the Year Award.
Her previous professional experience includes: adjunct instructor of Art & Digital Media at South Suburban College in South Holland, Illinois; adjunct instructor of Visual & Performing Arts at Governor’s State University in University Park, Illinois; graduate assistant for associate professor: visual and performing arts (MFA Program) at Governor’s State University in University Park, Illinois; and owner/senior designer and photographer for Farfalla Designs + Photo in Chicago, IL.
In 2007, she started her own design and photography firm: Farfalla Designs + Photo, which is now called Farfalla. Our team has grown and been working together for almost ten years and specialize in graphic design, photography and web design. In 2012, she graduated from Governor’s State University with a Master of Fine Arts: Independent Film & Digital Imaging degree. She also received her Bachelor of Fine Arts: Graphic Design degree from Columbia College of Chicago in 2008. In 2005, she received her Associate’s in Applied Science: Graphic Communications degree and is also certified in Digital Design, both from Prairie State College.
She is also part of a few professional organizations: AIGA: The Professional Association for Design, the STA: The Society of Typographic Arts and Phi Theta Kappa: National Honor Society.
Her hobbies and outside interests tend to revolve around her firm, designing, photographing weddings and traveling especially. She does play billiards in Chicago, Indiana and Las Vegas on a regular basis.
“I am very passionate about the fields I teach, and I share every ounce of my enthusiasm with my students in the classroom,” Professor Planera says. “I love mentoring and preparing students for the outside world! My goal is to leave the community a better place than it was when we arrived.”
